Statement of Reconciliation
We at MetroStars represent the “World Game” in our local community. Like the World Game our community consists of many nationalities that embrace many cultures and beliefs, this provides a perfect foundation to progress reconciliation with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters.
Our Purpose
Through football it is our goal to inspire and enable all players, their families and our supporters to embrace reconciliation. Our commitment is demonstrated by the club’s involvement in SAASTA Aboriginal Football Academy, our club’s commitment to high school students with a unique program with educational and wellbeing outcomes, football development and pathways.
Our Vision
We will promote and facilitate reconciliation by building positive and meaningful relationships, with respect and trust, between our football and local community and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This vision is based on five dimensions specified by Reconciliation Australia and adopted by MetroStars
1/ Race Relations – All Australians understand and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous cultures rights and experiences, which results in stronger relationships based on trust and respect and that are free of racism.
2/ Equality and Equity – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people participate equally in a range of life opportunities and the unique rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognized and upheld.
3/ Institutional Integrity – The active support of reconciliation by the nation’s political, business and community structures.
4/ Unity – An Australian society that values and recognizes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage as a proud part of a shared identity.
5/ Historical Acceptance – All Australians understand and accept the wrongs of the past and the impact of these wrongs. Australia makes amends for these wrongs of the past and ensures these wrongs are never repeated
