Volunteer Spotlight - Dimitri Peppas

Many volunteers ensure MetroStars continues to run from day to day. Dimitri Peppas is just one of these hard working volunteers and is the current holder of the Metro Knights Dino Polisena Award.

This award is the oldest trophy in our club’s history. The award serves as a token of the club’s humble beginnings and a reminder of the foundations that underpin this great club, that being our volunteers. It pays tribute to those who often unselfishly sacrifice themselves for the good of the club ahead of their own needs.

Dimitri started volunteering his time to Football in South Australia at the age of 14, helping his family who were running the Adelaide University Women’s Soccer Club at the time. He first became involved with MetroStars in 2011.

Anyone who follows our social media pages can see the amount of work that goes into promoting our content, something that usually takes 2 to 3 hours a night, plus weekend game days. Sunday evenings are used to create media content for the upcoming week.

In his role, Dimitri works closely with the Committee and Administration team to ensure communication is up to date on our website, social media channels and other marketing avenues. Regular communication with various groups around of club from Senior Coaches & Team Managers and Junior teams ensure he is across any newsworthy items for our social media.

As such, Dimitri relies on various people around the club including team managers and parents to provide him with material to publish on social media. His aim is to provide a holistic capture of the club focusing on all areas from seniors to juniors, to our amateurs, as well as off field through promoting our sponsors, volunteers, facilities and achievements.

Social Media in general is still relatively young, and it’s presence has increased over the years. Dimitri noticed not enough people were utilising this free service and aimed to elevate our brand in terms of content that was being produced. Over the last 2 seasons, our website traffic and social media activity has increased by 150% since the beginning of 2023. We already have a huge social media presence across all our platforms, however we have seen a spike in interstate and overseas activity with many new followers.

With all the time spent on our media coverage, you could easily forget that Dimitri is also a father of three. In 2022, Dimitri returned to coaching his twin sons in our Under 6s after a 16 year hiatus where he previously coached at various levels at Adelaide University Womens Soccer Club and West Torrens Birkalla. Today, you will also find Dimitri as Team Manager of his son’s team.

As the current holder of the Metro Knights Dino Polisena Award, Dimitri must reflect upon the achievements of the award and determine who he believes to be his successor for the following year. Whoever he picks will have big shoes to fill.

Thank you Dimitri!
