Get To Know: Lee Gregson
Introducing our Amateurs First Team Head Coach Lee Gregson, who was promoted to the role at the end of last season.
Lee has been with MetroStars for the past two seasons as Assistant Coach of the Amateurs First Team and Coach of the Amateurs Reserves team.
We spoke to Lee about how the team is travelling this preseason.
"With Preseason entering its third month and trial matches on in earnest the squad is shaping up and sharpening up ready for our assault on Division 3. March will see us begin our Cup Journey before the April start of the season," said Lee.
"We have had good turn outs to our sessions with numbers increasing as we close in on season start."
The club has tested itself this preseason, with matches against higher division opponents.
"Last week's results vs Para Hills United (Div 2) were pleasing and despite the loss to Salisbury Inter who are a Premier Division side on the weekend, the team showed promising signs," said Lee.
Lee was upbeat about what we could expect to see from his team this up and coming season.
"In a year that can be described as a refresh with a new coaching set up, we are looking, as a group to go to the next level of our football. Adopting a style of play based on increased possession we look to be uncompromising and setting standards that will set us up in our focus for promotion to Division 2."
The First team has a solid group of players who have played for the club since its re-birth in 2020, including some new players joining the club.
"We have welcomed a number of exciting new faces to the squad. With a solid foundation built on our core of returning players our recruits have not only fitted in well but enhanced our quality across the pitch. I personally am excited to see what each and everyone of our players can bring to their games and the benefits that genuine competition for spots will bring for our group as a whole," said Lee.
Good luck to Lee and our Amateur teams for this season!
The teams play West Adelaide Raptors this weekend in trial matches, show your support for the teams by heading out to watch them.
