R22 Preview - MetroStars vs. Modbury Jets
We preview Round 22 in the National Premier Leagues - SA competition as MetroStars host Modbury Jets at T.K. Shutter Reserve on Friday evening.
MetroStars come into this game following a disappointing 2-1 loss away to Croydon Kings.
Nahuel Bonada made his first start of the season and gave Metro the lead on 25 minutes, a powerful left footed strike following a blistering counter attack.
Domenic Costanzo's deflected free kick levelled the game up on 68 minutes.
Metro continued to create chances, substitute Esposito linking well with Bonada and Mori, but the breakthrough did not come.
Referee Daniel Cook awarded the home side a penalty on 85 minutes, which Costanzo converted confidently.
The away side were denied a penalty themselves only minutes later when Esposito's shot looked to have struck Trimboli's elbow.
It was cruel on MetroStars who were unable to convert a dominant display into a win.
10th placed Modbury Jets are coming off a 0-0 draw with Adelaide City. The draw stopped the club's run of 5 straight losses in the National Premier Leagues.
The club recently parted ways with their long term coach Jason Trimboli.
MetroStars are boosted with the return to full fitness for Joshua Mori and Christian Esposito, who share 11 goals between them this season. Defender Justin Davis completed 90 minutes in the Reserves last weekend against Croydon.
The two clubs have not met in a competitive fixtures since 2015.
